Congratulations to Year 13 on their outstanding 2026 A Level results and exciting destinations!

In a day of celebration and excitement, our Year 13 students have gathered with teachers, friends and family to receive their results and mark a significant milestone in their educational journey. The hard work and determination of this cohort have culminated in exceptional A Level results, with students achieving outstanding grades and securing places on highly competitive university courses, degree apprenticeships and employment pathways across the UK and beyond.

The results underline the academic excellence, determination and resilience of Durham Johnston students. Over 40% of grades awarded were A*-A, with three quarters awarded at A*, A or B.

As one of the highest performing Sixth Forms nationally, we are particularly proud of the breadth and ambition of this year's destinations. More than 10% of the cohort are going on to study Medicine or at Oxford or Cambridge, continuing a remarkable tradition of success. Since 2012, over 150 Durham Johnston students have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge.

Students have secured university places across the United Kingdom, from Aberdeen to York, with one student heading as far afield as the USA. They will study subjects ranging from Accountancy to Zoology, while others will commence vocational courses and professional pathways in Medicine, Veterinary Science, Engineering, Pharmacy and Primary Education. The school is also celebrating continued success in securing prestigious degree apprenticeships, combining higher-level study with professional employment.

We are immensely proud of both our students and the support they receive from our dedicated, inspirational staff. Our success stems from a culture that unites high academic expectations with strong pastoral support and a rich programme of super‑curricular and extra‑curricular opportunities. Students leave us with far more than excellent examination results: they gain wide-ranging experiences in sport, performing arts, leadership, service and co‑curricular activities, alongside the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in their next steps. We prepare young people not only for higher education and employment, but to be active, informed and responsible citizens in modern Britain.

Success is always personal, and the school is keen to celebrate every member of Year 13 and the individual achievements behind the headline figures. Students have risen to the challenges set before them and demonstrated the hard work, commitment and determination that have characterised their time at Durham Johnston.

We wish all our students the best as they begin the next stage of their education, training or employment. Their results are excellent, and we are immensely proud of their achievements. Whilst they are leaving us for their next steps, we will continue to offer support as Durham Johnston will always be their school.
