Image of Results Day Update for Year 11 Students

GCSE results will be made available from 8.30 a.m. on Thursday 20th August and, each year, we think carefully about how to support and advise students on a very important day in their lives. As you will fully appreciate, the situation regarding A Level and GCSE results has been developing very quickly and we will continue to monitor the situation and to update you via the website. Please check the website on Wednesday to see if there have been any changes to our plans or the national advice regarding GCSE results.

In July we wrote to all students with our plans for the results day and I would recommend that you read the overview very carefully in preparation for Thursday:

There are two further letters which can be accessed at the following links:

If you are a current student, and have applied for a place at Durham Johnston Sixth Form, please click here to read a letter with more information.

If you have applied for a place at Durham Johnston Sixth Form, but will be new to the school in September, please click here to read a letter with more information.

There is a fast track 6th form sign up system for those who have the grades they need and who do not intend to change courses. There are then a series of appointment times for those with queries. Please make sure that you read Mrs Lennon’s letters very carefully before attending on Thursday. Please also be aware that our priority on Thursday is to make sure that all students know what their next steps are. You will receive a letter with your results explaining what you need to do if you have a query about your results. Those queries, if they do not affect your place at Durham Johnston or another Post-16 school or college, should be forwarded to the email address for queries that you will receive with your results. We are keen to help all students, but will prioritise students who need guidance on Post-16 courses.

I would reiterate that social distancing and safety are of paramount importance and it would be sensible to wear a mask when collecting your results. Please also bring a pen so that you can complete a brief form about your next steps and we will offer a significant level of support for those students who need help with any questions about A Level study at Durham Johnston. In addition to receiving your results you will be given a letter, guidance from Ofqual and information about result queries.

Ofqual have also produced some very helpful materials that I recommend you read in advance. They include a ‘Student Guide to Post-16 Qualification Results’ and a video that explains the results process. Both are very useful.

There has been a steady drum beat of speculation and rumour regarding this year’s results and I’m aware that it will have been hard to ignore the daily media coverage. Please try to do so, as your teachers worked very closely with you over a 5 year period; they know you very well and the school worked very hard to make sure that grades were fair and reflected your potential. Above all else, remember that Thursday is a celebration of all that you have achieved in your time with us and that we will do all that we can help you to make sure that your next steps are successful.

Best wishes for Thursday.

Mr O’Sullivan
